OUR MISSION
To promote and provide animal welfare and relief to the injured, lost, malnourished, abused, cats and dogs both domestic and wild on the Island of Sal (Cape Verde) and where suitable, rehoming. To promote prevention of cruelty towards captured animals.
We are a group that has independently joined together to rehome the beautiful dogs and cats on Sal island, Cape Verde.
We want to spread the word that these dogs need our help, need our support and need our hearts with them.
WHAT WE DO
FOOD, WELFARE AND SHELTER
Feed the free roaming cats and dogs around the Island of Sal.
Work closely with the islands veterinary to identify and seek treatment for sick cats and dogs.
Provide a secure emergency shelter to keep dogs safe and allow recovery.
VETENINARY CARE AND NEUTERING
Provide tick, flea and worming treatments for the cats and dogs on the island.
Identify cats and dogs that are unneutered and provide neutering through the local veterinary to reduce the population of feral cats and dogs.
REHABILITATION AND REHOMING
Provide wheelchairs for dogs that have lost the use of their legs. These have been designed by one of the trustees and built by the organisation and reduce the risk of an otherwise healthy dog being euthanised.
Where possible and the animal is suitable, rehoming into permanent and loving forever homes.
FOR A BETTER LIFE
For animals that have been ill or are injured then there is the option to either return to the wild, return to the owner or rehome them.
Where a dog or cat is injured but it’s a community animal and they are happy in that enviroment we will return them back.
When treating an animal for a resident in Cape Verde, because they can't afford the vet care, the animal will be neutered and vaccinated if necessary, prior to returning them to the owner (with continued support with food, etc if they are struggling).
Some dogs and cats find being a free roaming animal difficult, resulting in malnourishment and sickness. These animals we will try to re-home; either in Cape Verde or Europe.
